As Entrepreneurs and parents we understand the importance of teaching our children the value of money. They spend money with out understanding how hard it is to make money. They are always asking for money to buy cheap toys that won’t last or wanting to spend HUGE money on silly items.
Wanting to teach our son how hard it is to make money, we let him and his “BFF” each setup a stand outside our Pet shop. We discussed basic business principals such as “Market related products”, “cost vs sale price”, “profit” and so on. It was such a hit that Mini Entrepreneurs day was born…
Our 4th Mini Entrepreneurs day
“Do not teach your child to save money. Educate the child on how to earn it. so when the child starts spending, will know the value of money and the happiness in the process.”

Leading up to the big day
Its up to parents how much they teach their children on the basic business skills and how much children get to do themselves. From making the products, to setting up and decorating their stand to selling the products.
We give parents an idea of what to explain to their children regarding basic business skills, and we love hearing feedback from parents on this process. One in particular “Mini Entrepreneur” decided to price his “cup of juice” at R100 per glass, needless to say his mom had to sit and explain that no one would pay a R100 for a cup of juice. They spent the afternoon looking at market related products and finally with a little guidance he decided on R10 per cup. On the day he sold out in the first hour and made R5 profit on each cup he sold.

The BIG day arrived and as early as 9am Mini Entrepreneurs and their parents were arriving excitedly, with arms full of their home-made products and some with shop bought items they eagerly setup their stands. As the stands were taking shape and beautiful home-made signs were going up, some children were docking their stall outfits and decorating their stands.
There was great excitement as there was a jumping castle on loan from RE/MAX Property Associates – Tableview. A massive “Thank you to RE/MAX” as the children love jumping off their sugar rush on the jumping castle and the parents are equally grateful as they took home exhausted children. remaxpropertyassociates.co.za

With supervision from The Burgundy Pet shop team the children also enjoyed exploring the fish and bird room, getting to hold hamsters and rabbits in our petting pen.
The event overall was a great success and all the children sold their products, many of the children using their petty cash or pocket money to buy from each other.
Our Winning Stall was Mia who spent hours making Royal iced biscuits, cotton candy, decorating signs and even made a massive cotton candy display item
Thank you to all the family and friends that came through to support these amazing children and we look forward to the next Mini Entrepreneurs day on the 19 November 2022. If you would like for your child to take part in the next event send us a message and book your spot today
